How Finding Maeve Works
We built Finding Maeve because finding senior housing shouldn’t require trusting a sponsored ad. Every recommendation we make is grounded in data, citations, and honest confidence levels.
Our Ranking System
Every facility is scored across five weighted dimensions. The weights reflect what research shows matters most for care outcomes — not what’s most profitable for us.
Care Type Fit
35%Does the facility offer the exact level of care needed?
Budget Fit
20%How well does pricing align with the family's stated range?
Distance Fit
15%Proximity to the preferred location or ZIP code.
Review Quality
15%Volume and recency of review signals in our database.
Theme Alignment
15%Do facility themes (staffing, safety, food) match priorities?
Trust & Transparency
Citations required for factual claims
If a recommendation includes a factual claim (e.g., 'strong staffing record'), it must be backed by a cited source. Without citations, we downgrade the claim to 'not enough evidence to verify.'
State license verification
We cross-reference facilities against official state licensing datasets. Verified facilities are clearly marked. Unverified ones get a warning flag.
Confidence levels on every result
Every result shows a confidence level (high, medium, low) based on data volume, recency, and source diversity. We never pretend to know more than we do.
No paid placements
Facilities cannot pay to appear higher in results. Rankings are purely algorithmic based on the criteria above.
Our Data Sources
State Licensing Records
Official licensing datasets from state health departments, including CA RCFE and nationwide assisted living registries.
Open Datasets
Publicly available assisted living data with academic provenance, including datasets described in peer-reviewed research.
Review Signals
Aggregated review themes from public sources, processed for signal patterns — not raw sentiment scores.
